EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING – Winter 2017


Join us as we explore various facets of nature through guided hikes and educational programs. You’ll see the nature preserves as you have never seen them before. All programs are free of charge; however, we welcome your donation so that we can continue bringing you great programs.  Pre-registration is required where indicated. Enrollment is limited and registration is on a first come – first serve basis. NestWatch Volunteer Introductory Training

Date: Saturday, March 11, 2017
Time: 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Location: Macricostas Preserve (124 Christian Street, New Preston, CT)

Steep Rock Association is recruiting volunteer citizen scientists to monitor a string of bluebird boxes as part of the nationwide program, NestWatch, which tracks the status and trends in the reproductive biology of birds.

Season details, protocol, expected bird species, and their identification will be covered in an indoor presentation before heading into the preserve to practice on the subject bird boxes.

PROGRAM LEADERS:  Rory Larson joined Steep Rock Association in 2013.  He has a BS in Wildlife Ecology and works ardently to inventory and enhance biodiversity throughout the Washington landscape.
