Holiday House Clean Up 2017
By: Denise Arturi
Who isn’t fascinated with the rich history of Holiday House? Volunteers from under 18 to over 80 all pitched in to help uncover the ruins of Holiday House at our Steep Rock Preserve on Saturday April 15th.
The work included moving brush that our land steward Clark Gifford had cut, cleaning the path and cleaning 2 “rooms.”
(Before and after of the cleanup)
The nine member team which included three trustees and two staff ended the morning with a bit of archaeological exploring which led to more mysteries; the foot of a large brick column and concrete slabs spaced a few inches apart on top of the concrete slab. Is it possible they were floaters for the bowling alley that was in the Holiday House??
For those of you who missed this opportunity but are still interested in helping out and uncovering more history, stay tuned for another clean up day in the near future.
